Market is the place where you can buy and sell.
What you buy and sell in the market is based on what is the specific market built for.
Market is the platform or place – where everyone commonly goes to buy and sell certain things that are allowed as per the rules of market.
And Stock Market is the place – where you can buy and sell stocks. You can’t buy and sell stocks anywhere other than stock market.
But unlike other markets, you can’t directly buy and sell stocks with the company – you will need a broker to buy or sell stocks on behalf of you and company.
As per RBI guidelines, it is necessary that no activity of buying and selling stocks happens without a broker involved in it.
In past, stock brokers are meant to be people with the full time job of buying a selling stocks.
But, now broker as a term can also be used refer to a full time broker or a platform or an application which you use as an intermediate to buy and sell stocks.
The platforms or apps that acts as a broker can also be called as an discount brokers.
